Another spooky season, another opportunity to dress my house for my favorite time of year. After a year of back-to-back-to-back home projects, I found small ways to still make this season festive at home while allowing my energy to restore and our living spaces to breath a bit. So come on in, the fire’s warm; let’s take an indoor tour of this year’s Halloween home decor.
The Showstopper
First and foremost is the project that reignites an even bigger excitement in me for the holidays: the COMPLETED fireplace. After years of faux fireplace displays, no fireplace displays, and partial fireplace displays, this year gains a spooky season vignette that is a whole moment on her own. The assembly of collected candlestick holders over the roaring fireplace is an image that kept me going during the most taxing parts of the fireplace build.
Practical Magic
Books are one of the most practical decorations. Seasonal books not only look good displayed, but they add to a nightly ritual. Throughout the season with renewed titles we get to discover again. And although they take up space displacing the usual displayed books, they are the seasonal accoutrement that gets used the most. Worth the effort in my book!
Light the Way
Don’t underestimate the power of playing with lighting! In this case, it’s in the form of battery-powered candles. I didn’t need to an overhaul any decor for this display. I plopped the candleholder with candlesticks down and TADA! an easy scene that allows me to spread and add to a whole spooky home effect. And as a bonus? Make sure the candles have a timer and use it! There’s no decor quite like the decor that will *magically* participate on cue.
Tried and True Traditions
You might recognize some repeats from last year’s fall decorations. I love the creative challenge of coming up with new holiday displays. But, after doing holiday displays over time there are some-tried and-and-true vignettes that I love breaking out each year. Building a holiday display that is enthralling and encompassing means I’ve based it on long-standing things I like AND ways that I’ve found I like to display them. This doesn’t necessarily mean that my taste will never change. It does mean that in this phase of life/over the last decade, I’ve built an expansive collection of Halloween decor that I love and am proud to display in my home year-after-year (even if some year’s it’s pared down because I’m tired).
